Italian Blogger Plays in Several "Global Neighborhoods"

Published by Michael at 9:32 am under blogging

Every now and then I check in on Technorati’s top 100-blog list, rarely are there any real surprises.  But this time I was surprised – I’m referring to the success of the blog di Beppe Grillo (now number 8), the outrageous and comic Italian blog that has ”tackled financial scandals and political corruption.” How does Beppe do it?  I’m not sure, but it can’t hurt that the blog appears in Italian, English, and Japanese.

Hat tip to colleague and consultant Giovanni Rodriguez, who tells me he’s now proud again of his Italian heritage.  But, he’s still wondering about the other half – ”where are all the Puerto Rican bloggers?”

You simply cannot have a chat on social media without having Beppe’s name come up. I have never met him, but he is passionately met by every Italian in social media that I have met so far, and that is quite a few.

That should have been a chat on social media with “anyone Italian”

Grillo’s been climbing up the Technorati 100 for the past year–it’s been very interesting watching him move up with each iteration. I wonder, though, what we miss in the translation of Italian to English (his blog’s in English too.) From a metrics standpoint, it might be nice to delve into where those links are coming from (self-generated vs. links from other sites), if the links are from only Italian-speakers or others, and what his most popular posts have been. Wish I had the time to do it :-)

Tish, I too wish I had the time! Maybe I should try and interview him and see if I could get him to share his secrets?

Its worth asking…Who knows; maybe he’ll let me?
